It has been a winter of discontent with many protests but this one stands out, from its timing, its global coordination, and the sheer strength of the people that turned out:
Speakers ranged from Madonna to a feminist comedian, to Councillor Caroline Russell, who stood in Emily Thornbury’s MP seat and went on to become a Londonwide Assembly Member on the Greater London Authority. Caroline is a member of Green Party Women and has argued to support a structure similar to all-women shortlists in London Green politics. With considerable support she won her seat in the Corbyn heartland as sole opposition councillor by a margin of 8 votes.
Caroline shared the video 2 weekends ago and since then it has earned over 100 likes and praise from green friend and external communications co-ordinator Penny Kemp.
Caroline Russell of London Green Party wrote in her post “I’m proud to have marched with such an incredibly creative, passionate and determined group of citizens standing up for equality, dignity and justice and resisting misogyny, racism and division.”
Other Greens including the co-leaders took part in bridges not walls the previous day emphasising asylum and refugees. After Theresa May’s visit, which prompted an open letter on our national website and the Guardian, President Trump is expected to visit the United Kingdom prompting a large petition to Parliament to cancel the honour.
