Green Assembly Members are making the case that the Mayor of London needs to fix the cladding crisis.
In an amendment to the GLA draft, Greens and Lib Dems have called for a Building Safety Hub to be set up.
This would help residents deal with the complicated financial and legal issues of making their homes safer.
Nearly five years after Grenfell, many residents of apartment blocks are dealing with high bills to sort out unsafe cladding.
Green Party Assembly Member Zack Polanski said it’s unfair that developers and regulators are not paying the bills.
“It simply cannot be right for the people who live in homes to take the responsibility for the flaws from those who built them, or even sold them to them.
“The Government could and should do more, but it is right for us to push the Mayor to use his budget, and powers, to support Londoners in dealing with issues of building safety.”
The proposal has been agreed by the London Assembly who have promised an investment of £200,000 over the next three years.
