TFL is looking to ban gambling adverts across its advertising network – prompted by Sian Berry raising the matter with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
In a recent London Assembly meeting, Sian asked the Mayor whether it was “appropriate” that the number of gambling promotions had increased “in light of the financial struggles faced by many Londoners today”.
In a written response Sadiq Khan said that he shared her concerns and confirmed he had formally asked TfL to “bring forward” its plans to ban gambling adverts.
Sian said: “This is excellent news. Predatory businesses that play on people’s fears of poverty, and leach money from our recovery should not be given a public platform to target Londoners, and this has to stop before more harm is done.”
