Local Islington resident Jon Nott selected to fight St. George’s By-election

Local Islington resident Jon Nott has been selected to fight the St. George’s ward local council by-election in Islington.

The by-election, due to take place on March 21st, was called after the departure of Labour Councillor Jessica Asato to chase a parliamentary seat in Norwich.

Green Party candidate Jon Nott, a chief executive of a children’s charity, has lived in the area for over a decade. Speaking on his blog, Jon said: “I’m honoured to have been selected by Islington Green Party to contest the by-election in St George’s ward.

“My first engagement with Islington politics was the campaign to save Whittington Park, which ended up with me standing as a candidate in the Junction ward by-election that year (on the old boundaries, so including some of the current St George’s ward).

“I’ve a real affection for North Islington, particularly the bits that lie between the Holloway Road and the Camden border and I’m proud to have been the Green Party’s candidate for the area in the 2004 London Assembly elections and the 2005 General Election.

“I’m looking forward to spending even more time in St George’s during this campaign and engaging with people and groups in the area. And if the campaign goes well, I look forward to serving them as a Green Party councillor.”
