Calls for shared space moratorium until safety issues resolved

Commenting ahead of tomorrow’s demonstration by the Guide dogs for the Blind Association, outside of City Hall, Jenny Jones said:

"I will be asking the Mayor to agree to a moratorium on the Exhibition Road share space scheme until the situation has been clarified. I’m very nervous about the schemes proposed so far and hope they don’t deter walking generally. All shared space schemes should be 20mph, or lower."

"I think that shared surface schemes are only acceptable if each and every scheme is vetted by disability groups and organisations like Living Streets and London Cycling Campaign. That means they would be safe and convenient for all abilities, not only the blind, partially-sighted and wheelchair-users, but also for people with prams, children, heavy shopping, temporarily disabled, older people and all vulnerable road users."
