Greens win support for ethnic newspapers

Irish born Green Party London Assembly Member, Noel Lynch, noticed that the Greater London Authority was not placing recruitment advertising across a range of Irish or other ethnic newspapers.

Greens are delighted that the Mayor has now agreed that the GLA should advertise London Irish, Black, Asian and other minority ethnic press.

Noel Lynch said, “I think it farcical to state on one hand that the GLA has a commitment to diversity and on the other hand to exclude larges areas of recruitment potential.”

Noel Lynch placed a formal written question to the Mayor to force the issue of wider advertising in minority ethnic newspapers.

The Mayor’s reply was “I will be asking Human Resources at the GLA and functional bodies to advertise vacancies in the London Irish, Black, Asian and other minority ethnic press.”

Noel responded; “I am delighted with the result, the GLA should be setting the standards for other organisations to follow. GLA recruitment advertising should try its best to reach all who make up London’s rich ethnic and cultural composition.”
