To receive an award students were required to gain at least nine A and A* grades at GCSE Level or three A Grades at A’ level. Over 70 students were presented with an award on Saturday and praised for their efforts that helped them reach such a remarkable result.
Jean, who was a teacher herself in Walthamstow, London, took part in the award ceremony and gave a special mention to the students of Walthamstow Girls School and Leytonstone Sixth Form College where Jean still has colleagues teaching. Jean said; "I congratulate everyone on their hard work and enthusiasm that has propelled each and everyone of you to where you are today. I hope you, your family and friends are all very proud of your success.
"Education is an important tool that gives you the power to be independent and not just rely on what other people tell you. It opens up your choices in the wider world, whether you want to be a city high flyer or work with your local community. It is now up to the rest of society to make sure you do not have to face the discrimination that has so often prevented your community from taking these opportunities in the past."
