London in the dark this Hallowe’en

The latest Lights Out London event will come to the capital this Halloween. Darren Johnson, Green Party London Assembly Member, is calling on London’s Mayor to support the energy saving initiative by ordering all non-essential lights in City Hall to be switched off for the night, and by encouraging the same action by organisations in the GLA group, including New Scotland Yard, and Palestra.

"Turning all your lights and appliances off for a night is a great way of realising just how much energy we use every day. Switching off all lights and appliances in London’s buildings for just one hour would save of over a thousand tonnes of CO2, the equivalent of driving from London to Sydney more than 300 times."

"All the buildings that house the Mayor, Metropolitan Police, Transport for London, the London Development Agency, and London Fire brigade should lead by example and switch off all non-essential lights and appliances this Halloween, and every night after that."

Darren will ask the Mayor the following question on the 17th of October:

Lights Out LondonQuestion No: 2236 / 2007Darren JohnsonWill you continue to support the ‘Lights out London’ campaign by switching off City Hall’s lights for the evening of the 31st of October? Will you also encourage all buildings in the Greater London Authority group to switch off all unnecessary lighting on the same evening?
