On Saturday, hundreds of Haringey residents marched through the streets from Tottenham Green to Finsbury Park in protest against social cleansing and Haringey Council’s plans to privatise billions of pounds worth of public assets.
The protest, which was organised by local campaign group Stop Haringey Development Vehicle, brought together many allies from across the political spectrum, and was enthusiastically supported by members of Haringey Green Party.
Here’s a great write-up in the Ham & High.
The video below includes an interview with local Green Party Member Malcolm Powell, as well as a speech from Green Assembly Member Sian Berry:
The Haringey Development Vehicle (or HDV) is a shameful sell-off of Haringey’s public assets. The council have entered into a huge and risky deal with a single private developer, Lendlease, without democratic consultation – even local Labour MPs have spoken out against it! A legal challenge is currently being mounted, and here at Haringey Green Party, we’re proud to stand side by side with the many others who are opposing the HDV.
