Ahead of the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime taking over supervision of the Metropolitan Police from the former Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) on Monday 16 January 2011, former-MPA member Jenny Jones said:
"It’s a pity the government didn’t fix the flaws in the MPA rather than scrapping it all together.
"We’ll now have less democracy and less scrutiny of a complex difficult organisation, the Met police.
"As Mayor I would invite cross party representation and tough critics to join me on a panel to ensure the Met performs transparently well for London. I hope any Mayor would do the same."
