Rocking for votes at the Ace Cafe

Shahrar Ali, Green Party London Assembly candidate addresses convention of the Motorcycle Action Group.

On Sunday 15 April, Shahrar Ali, Green Party London Assembly candidate addressed a convention of the Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) at the Ace Cafe, in Stonebridge, off the North Circular. The MAG describes itself as the UK’s leading riders rights organisation aimed at shaping policy in the capital and beyond for motorcylists and scooters.

Shahrar Ali gave a well-received speech, explaining the environmental advantage of the motor bike over the motor car, as taking into account passenger seats bikes use less road space. Questions were put on a whole range of topics, from how best to share road space with other users, to parking problems and road safety. The LibDems and Labour did not send a representative.

Speaking after the convention, Shahrar Ali, said: "This was a terrific opportunity for the Greens to demonstrate that we are not anti-motorcycle, by explaining how our joined-up approach to traffic reduction and combating air pollution would benefit all bikers. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with the bikers at their iconic Ace Cafe, smack in the middle of the borough where I live."
