Green Assembly Member Baroness Jenny Jones criticises the Mayor on London’s “hopeless” solar record with less than one percent of London’s homes having solar panels installed.

New figures published by the Government show that London is ninth out of the ten biggest cities in the UK in a league table of solar panel take-up using the Feed-in Tariff. If London had the same take-up as Sheffield, which came first, there would be an extra 27,000 homes with solar panels, more than trebling the current number.
Jenny commented, “This is a hopeless record, we are missing a great opportunity to reduce our carbon emissions and help people with rising energy costs. While countries like Germany have used feed in tariffs on a huge scale, and now aim for 40 per cent of their electricity to come from solar panels by 2020, we are struggling to install them on even one per cent of our homes in the capital.
“The Mayor can and should do much more to support individuals and energy co-ops who want to buy and install solar panels in London.”
