The Viridor Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) incinerator granted planning permission by Sutton Council for the burning of four London council’s (Croydon, Kingston upon Thames, Merton and Sutton) waste is expected to be imminently referred back to the Mayor of London for his decision. London Green Party Assembly Member Jenny Jones has submitted a Mayors Question, which follows up her letter of objection to The Mayor urging him to reject this application.
Jenny Jones said:
“Building a giant incinerator on metropolitan open land is not only contrary to the Mayor’s own planning policies, but it’s a recipe for a disaster for the local environment and for generating pollution.”
“This proposal will see hundreds of thousands of tonnes of perfectly recyclable waste burned over the course of its lifetime and must be stopped”
