Greens were outraged when Transport for London (TfL) declared intentions to use the precious green land between Harold Wood and Brentwood as an option for a major train depot for the Crossrail project.
Cross London Rail Links Limited (CLRLL) have identified a preferred location at the Romford Railway Goods Yard and Gasworks following further scrutiny of the planning, environmental, and economic issues associated with the development of a train maintenance depot.
Noel Lynch said,’I am really delighted that Crossrail have finally seen sense on the issue and that all the good work by local campaigners have borne fruit. However, I’m not terribly pleased with their choice of the site of Romford Railway Goods Yard and Gasworks as further green land will be lost there. CLRLL themselves have stated that the preferred location raises some significant planning, environmental and operational issues."
The Mayor has offered to sit down with Noel Lynch and his advisors to look at alternative sites.
