Jenny Jones AM, a Green Party Woman of Achievement – Lunch with the Queen 11th March 2004

One of only 200 women to be invited, Jenny is the first Green Party politician to have been given the job of Deputy Mayor of London. Jenny has been described as the most influential Green in England and has worked hard to make a real difference to people’s lives in the capital.

Among her many duties as Deputy Mayor and Green Assembly Member Jenny is Road Safety Ambassador for London, where she has been determined to make the capital safer for cyclists and pedestrians , ethnic minorities and children, and has been instrumental in pressing for safe routes to schools.

She has also worked with the Metropolitan Police Authority and Jean Lambert, Green MEP for London, to help solve the problems of trafficking in women. Her high level conference brought together politicians, police and NGO workers to work on a strategy to help the plight of these desperate women.

As Chair of London Food, she has launched an innovative scheme in the form of a wandering shop to supply fresh food to housing estate residents in East London.

Jenny Jones, 54, has been a member of the Green Party for over 16 years and has held the positions of Chair of the National Executive and Co-Chair of the Regional Council before becoming a Green Assembly Member.

She said, "As a child I used to dream of saving the planet. Now my work allows me to actually help save the planet by putting forward a green policy platform for London. In June I am confident the voters will elect more Greens to the London Assembly and return Jean Lambert and Paul Ingram to the European Parliament. Darren Johnson, Noel Lynch, Jean Lambert and myself have shown that Greens really do make a difference."
