The world’s leading expert on the consequences of animal research to human health, Dr Ray Geek, will argue that medical research that uses animals is an issue of human safety and not just of animal welfare.
Noel Lynch, Green Party Member of the London Assembly who is convening the conference said,
"We all know that Greens are entirely against research that uses animals. What is not well known is that research that uses animals may not produce the best results for humans.
This cruel practice cannot continue and cannot be justified on any grounds if it does not produce reliable scientific results. It is high time London established a centre for medical research without animals."
Amongst the scientific and animal welfare experts speaking at the
conference will be Dr Claude Reiss, currently president of six
organizations that utilise non-animal medical research.
Dr Reiss will talk about his work on Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and HIV. He will be followed by Dr Gill Langley of the Dr Hadwen Trust, who will talk about the move to establish a national centre for non-animal medical research; and Danny Bates of Animal Aid.
The Conference will be held on Monday 19 March 2004 at City Hall, Queens Walk, London SE1
