All gain, no pain – a conference to establish London as a centre for research without animals

Noel Lynch, Green Party Member of the London Assembly said,

"Public opinion strongly favours the use of non-animal approaches to medical research whenever feasible, this is according to a 1999 MORI poll.

Shamefully, overall numbers of animal used in experiments has been rising steadily for several years. There is little funding or direct research aimed at funding alternatives. There has never been a greater need for a centre which will stop this cruel and unpopular practice."

The world’s leading expert on the consequences of animal research to human health, Dr Ray Greek, will argue that medical research that uses animals is an issue of human safety and not just of animal welfare.

Amongst the scientific and animal welfare experts speaking at the conference will be Dr Claude Reiss, currently president of six organizations that utilise non-animal medical research.

Dr Reiss will talk about his work on Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and HIV. He will be followed by Dr Gill Langley of the Dr Hadwen Trust who will talk about the move to establish a national centre for non-animal medical research and Danny Bates of Animal Aid.
