The Green Party’s Deputy Leader, Adrian Ramsay, was in Lewisham last night to discuss his vision for a sustainable recovery to the economic crisis. Addressing the AGM of Lewisham Green Party on the issue of ‘Green Responses to the Recession’, Adrian spoke of the need for action to address the current economic crisis that will put the economy on a more stable footing for the future.
He said:
"There’s growing support for pumping money into the economy and investing in new infrastructure to address the current economic crisis. This is an opportunity to create lasting jobs in low-carbon areas such as public transport, home insulation, renewable energy and local manufacturing. We can put the economy on a firmer footing if we are less reliant on the financial sector and have more emphasis on the local services we need for the future.
"The Government’s cuts to crucial public services are taking us in the wrong direction by making more people unemployed and removing crucial services such as social care and youth workers that so many people rely on. The Government could raise billions of pounds per year for investment in public services by clamping down on corporate tax evasion and avoidance and introducing a Robin Hood tax on currency speculation between the big banks."

"With campaigning for the London Assembly and Mayoral elections about to begin, Adrian’s visit has been a source of inspiration for local activists. The Greens have a very good chance of getting more Assembly Members next year and a fairer, greener society will come a step closer if Londoners trust their instincts and vote Green."
