How to elect more Greens, including Siân, to the Assembly

Siân Berry is aiming to turn her strong Mayoral opinion polls into a seat on the Assembly, by using a giant peach to explain the voting system.

To elect Siân to City Hall, voters need to vote Green on the peach-coloured London Assembly list ballot paper, so Siân is joined on the campaign trail for the last few days by a 5-foot peach, bearing the message “Vote GREEN on the PEACH paper”.

Siân has also stressed the importance of casting a first vote for her in the Mayoral race in order to shut out the BNP, and has asked voters to insure against a Boris Johnson mayoralty by putting Ken Livingstone second.

She said: “I’m realistic about my chances of becoming Mayor. But voting for me in the first round will stop the BNP claiming fourth place – which they would take as proof that London is a racist city. You can then use your second vote to choose between Livingstone and Johnson. If, like me, you want to stop Boris Johnson, give your second to Ken.

“But it’s on the Assembly vote that I’m likely to win. We have a great chance of doubling our numbers, electing me the fourth Green AM. Our AMs have already used their power over the Mayor’s budget to fight poverty wages and triple spending on cycling, among many other advances. With four, we’ll be able to slash bills and emissions by giving every Londoner free insulation, paid for from energy firms’ profits.

“So please, vote Siân 1, Ken 2 and Green on the peach ballot paper to elect me to the Assembly.”
