Responding to reports that the Mayor of London is considering plans todemolish the 2012 Olympic stadium and re-build a football ground on thesite, Jenny Jones, Green Party London Assembly Member, said such a movewould damage the credibility of the ‘green games’.
"London’s Olympic organisers have said they would minimise the energywhich goes into providing materials for 2012 venues. Demolishing andrebuilding the biggest of those venues after the games makes a mockeryof efforts to provide sustainable stadia."
"Londoners were promised a significant environmental and sporting legacyfrom these Games. But this already appears to be under threat from theneed to cover costs."
