Darren Johnson will call on London’s Mayor to follow the
recommendations of the national Climate Change Committee by
introducing a long-term target of cutting London’s CO2 emissions by
80% by 2050, including aviation.
Welcoming reports of the Climate Change Committee’s recommendation of
an 80% cut in the UK’s greenhouse gases, Darren said:
"This national recommendation is proof that London was right when last
year it set a target of 60% CO2 cuts by 2025. Achieving this target
was always going to need significant support from national government,
and the Government must recognise this."
"The Mayor should build on London’s early agenda setting by expanding
existing programmes to get every home, every office and every building
energy efficient and by working to slash emissions from traffic and
aviation. These recommendations show that. London’s efforts to tackle
climate change must be stepped up, not cut back."
