Greens Demand a Ban on Conversion Therapy

Catholic church told to shut gay conversion therapy groups

Britain’s leading political parties, including the Greens, have banded together to demand the government ban conversion therapy.

The group, which includes LGBT+ Conservatives, the Labour Party and Plaid Cymru, have written a letter to equalities minister, Liz Truss, urging immediate action.

According to Stonewall, “Conversion therapy (or ‘cure’ therapy or reparative therapy) refers to any form of treatment or psychotherapy which aims to change a person’s sexual orientation or to suppress a person’s gender identity. It is based on an assumption that being lesbian, gay, bi or trans is a mental illness that can be ‘cured’. These therapies are both unethical and harmful.”

Which is why the Greens have joined forces with other parties to demand action. The letter states – “You pledged to be the government that banned conversion therapy. Now is the time to prove it.” The group asked Mrs. Truss to “meet with and engage directly with us as LGBT+ representatives and experts on conversion therapy”.
