The Green Party has called for tougher planning enforcement and an extra £6bn social housing grant for London up to 2020, in light of figures published by the Mayor of London showing that just 28% of new homes built in 2013/14 in London were affordable, the lowest proportion since 2005/06.
This is down from 35% the previous year.
Tom Chance, the Green Party’s national housing spokesperson and candidate for Lewisham West & Penge, said:
“These figures show that Boris Johnson is going ever-deeper into the pockets of big developers and investors. London needs a mayor that will get tough on affordable housing requirements, and a government that will invest billions in the social housing we need.”
