Green Assembly Member Darren Johnson questions the decision to remove several hundred staff from the frontline of the ticket office, warning that “many station staff are going to be stretched to the limit”.
Darren Johnson, Green Party Member of the London Assembly, has responded to the first tube ticket office closures today. South Wimbledon and Queensway stations will be the first to see staff moved from ticket booths into ticket halls and on to platforms.
Darren previously called on London Underground to carry out trials before pushing ahead with the full closure plan.

Darren Johnson AM commented:
“I find it difficult to believe that several hundred staff can be taken away from the front line of the tube network without having an impact on passenger safety and convenience.
“Many station staff are going to be stretched to the limit as they try to remain visible and accessible whilst handling incidents on the platforms and enquiries in the ticket hall.”
“London’s population today reached its highest ever level and making all these cuts at once is a reckless experiment with our increasingly overloaded tube network.”
