Bromley is only borough with fewer than half of its main roads below the legal limit for air pollution

All of Camden’s main roads break the European legal limits for NO2 air pollution, along with the City of London and Kensington and Chelsea. 78% of London’s main road network is over the legal limit for NO2. Bromley has 45% of its main roads in breach of the NO2 pollution limit.

Green Party Assembly Member Jenny Jones has produced the borough breakdown to illustrate the fact that the air pollution problem is not limited to central London. Jenny Jones said:

“Anyone who is shopping, working, or regularly travelling along London’s main road network needs to be aware that this is a problem right across the capital. The Mayor needs to be tackling air pollution in the suburbs as well as inner London. His proposed Ultra Low Emission Zone won’t help much in outer London. He needs to focus on reducing traffic by lowering fares and improving public transport, walking and cycling.”
