London Green Party Assembly Member Darren Johnson has criticised the Mayor of London’s new London Rental Standard, published yesterday, which sets out standards for landlord and letting agent accreditation schemes.
Darren commented,
“It’s amazing that the Mayor of London’s standard doesn’t make clear requirements on annual rent hikes, insecurity or extortionate letting agent fees. He needs to join the London Assembly in calling for stabilising rent controls, more secure tenancies and an end to letting agent fees.
“He also needs to stop pretending that voluntary accreditation will do anything to tackle the bad landlords, who won’t sign up to this scheme.
“I am glad, however, that the Mayor took up my suggestion of a marketing campaign to help tenants know their rights.”
