“Green Knight” to stand in Croydon North By-Election

Today it was announced that Croydon North by-election is to be held on Thursday 29th of November, following the death of incumbent Labour MP Malcom Wicks in September.

Following hustings in Croydon Green Party, it was announced at the end of October that local campaigner Shasha Kahn will be the Green Party candidate for the Croydon North By-Election.

Shasha’s local campaigning has earned him the nickname “the Green Knight”. The phrase was first coined by a journalist from Goldsmith’s University who was reporting on Shasha during the 2010 General Election. Local newspapers now also refer to Shasha as the Green Knight.

Shasha has been working to improve the quality of life for local residents for years, campaigning on issues across Croydon North. He is fighting his campaign focusing on key issues that matter to the local community, such as getting our young people into work and improving air quality for local residents.

Commenting on his nickname as the “Green Knight”, Shasha said: ‘I’ve looked this up, knights of the medieval era were asked to protect the weak, defenseless, and fight for the general

welfare of all. I have a track record of fighting for local people, especially where communities aren’t necessarily organised to take on the authorities, so I can see how the nickname has come about.’

Shasha (age 40) lives in Selhurst with his wife and daughter. He has lived in the constituency for over 30 years, and has stood as the Green Party parliamentary candidate for Croydon North on two previous occasions. He is leader of the Croydon Green Party.
