Reacting to speculation over the privatisation of areas of police work, Green Party Mayoral candidate and member of the London Assembly’s Police and Crime Committee Jenny Jones said:
"Surely the police service, as part of the judiciary, should be absolutely, 100% off limits for privatisation?
"The Mayor must immediately rule out any police privatisation in London.
"Perhaps it isn’t surprising that a government intent on NHS privatisation through the back door would consider such a move, but the influence of private capital over any aspect of our police force would be calamitous. The very basis of democratic government and the concept of impartiality in how the law is implemented would be undermined."
