Green MEP joins trade unions for major event on climate change and Copenhagen

Jean Lambert, London’s Green Party MEP, is one of the keynote speakers at an event tomorrow (Saturday) which considers the role trade unions can play in the fight against climate change.

Jean will join other politicians, trade unionists and activists in London tomorrow [Saturday March 7] for the second conference of the Campaign against Climate Change Trade Union Group.

The conference runs all day, with workshops on topics including workplace environment reps and the economics of climate change. Three forums in the afternoon will address the future of coal, nuclear power and aviation.

Jean will join the panel of the closing plenary session, Towards Copenhagen, looking ahead to the conference in Denmark in December this year, when world leaders will meet to shape the next stage of global response to climate change after the Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012.

Jean Lambert MEP said:

"The trade union movement is a critical force in the fight against climate change; raising awareness, motivating and mobilising its members into action, and pressurising employers and industry to take the environment
seriously.

"The Copenhagen climate change conference this year will mark a crucial step in deciding the future of our planet and the Trade Unions will be vital in helping to shape the direction we take."
