Sir
The London Mayor’s enthusiasm for electric vehicles is welcome, but your article misleads readers by claiming that these cars produce no CO2 emissions. As the bulk of this country’s energy is from non renewable sources, the electricity for these cars is more than likely to come from fossil fuels, so while London’s hands appear clean on this, there is still a CO2 cost somewhere. The same problem can also apply to hydrogen vehicles. Of course, given that the London Mayor has no plans in his budget to purchase any electric vehicles and has actually cancelled the planned purchase of 60 hydrogen vehicles as a cost cutting measure, the whole debate is a bit academic anyway.
