Jean Lambert, London’s Green Party MEP, will be among distinguished speakers gathering this Saturday [February 28] to argue for progressive solutions to the major global challenges we face.
Jean will speak at 6 Billion Ways, a day of discussion, ideas and the arts organised by a coalition of NGOs with the message that another world is possible, and we can make it happen.
Jean said:
"Crisis has become the keyword of our times: we speak almost unthinkingly of economic crisis, food crisis, humanitarian crisis, climate crisis. The danger of this is that it leaves us feeling powerless. While the challenges we face are real, we must not allow ourselves to believe that there is nothing we can do about them.
"I am very pleased to be involved in 6 Billion Ways because it is all about empowerment: it does not seek to deny the problems we face, but its emphasis is on harnessing our energies and capabilities towards overcoming them."
Bianca Jagger, Ken Livingstone, Gareth Peirce and Moazzem Begg are among other speakers who will be taking part in the event in East London. Topics will include the green new deal, the future of feminism, the situation in the Middle East, and the impact of President Obama’s election on race politics. Jean will speak in a session called European Union: Friend or Foe? which will explore the argument that the EU fails to live up to its progressive ideals, and that its role as a global political force needs better definition.
Jean said:
"It is very refreshing to see that a session has been dedicated to Europe: the majority of people remain under informed about the way the European system works, and its impact on their lives. Europe is going to be an increasingly important force in the future – it is vital that we make it a force for good, and for change."
