Green Euro MP to host debate on London’s environment

As part of the Love London 2008 environment festival, Jean Lambert, the London Green Party MEP, will be leading a panel debate on grassroots green activities taking place in London and across Europe. The event is taking place on Thursday 12 June from 6.30-8.30pm at the London School of Economics.

Jean Lambert will be joined on the panel by:

– Maria Adebowale, Director of London-based organisation Capacity Global and manager of the Just Cities project, which has brought together young people from London, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels to bring about positive change in their local environments.

– Chris Church, Chair of London 21 and Co-chair of the European Northern Alliance for Sustainability. Chris recently co-authored a report that looks at the role of NGOs in tackling climate change across Europe with a special focus on specific issues in Eastern Europe and nations outside the EU. He will discuss those challenges and solutions in his talk ‘Acting on Climate Change: From a divided Europe to a common purpose’.

– Arno Bonte, Member of the City Council of Rotterdam, Dutch Green Party. Arno will describe some of the environmental policies and local green initiatives in Rotterdam.

– Annemie Vermeylen, former Green vice-mayor of the Brussels city region of Watermaal-Bosvoorde. Annemie will discuss the work she has done to achieve a local ‘Kyoto plan’ target of a 30 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from public buildings and housing.
