Government policing priorities do not reflect those of Londoners says Jenny Jones.

Jenny Jones, a Green Party Member of the London Assembly, today asked the Mayor how he was able to justify 45 times more policing resources for the Olympics than for gun crime and gang culture.Extra policing resources for counter-terrorism, Olympics and security in the capital, has been allocated 900 extra officers, while tackling gun crime and gang culture has been allocated only 20 new officers. The Mayor responded that almost all of the 900 extra police officers will be funded by the Government and reflect its priorities.Jenny Jones commented: "I am disappointed that Government policing priorities do not reflect the priorities of Londoners.  The lives of our young people and our safety when walking the capital’s streets must not come in second place to the Olympics.  I welcome the Mayor’s decision to meet with the Metropolitan Police Commissioner to discuss extra resources that may be needed to tackle gun crime."
