London’s Social housing drops by 38,000 homes in 4 years

The number of social housing units in London has reduced, not increased, according to new figures released by the Green Party Group on the London Assembly. This is despite a long-standing mayoral commitment to make more homes available to Londoners at affordable prices. The loss of social housing has accelerated over the last two years.

Green Party London Assembly Member Darren Johnson revealed the figures, saying: "This dramatic decline in London’s social housing is extremely worrying for the diversity and vibrancy of the capital. As London’s population grows, more and more houses are being built, but the amount of affordable housing is still going down. All the efforts to ensure that everyone can afford to live here seem to be failing."
