GREENS DELIVER LEAFLETS BY FREIGHT BIKE

Noel Lynch Assembly Member who organized the leaflet drop said, "Freight bikes are a great way to get materials delivered across London. They are quick and more importantly non polluting. Not only do they get the message across, they ensure our members remain healthy by taking exercise."

Following yesterday’s campaign bus trip across London, Greens are having to order more materials. The highly decorated bus powered by biodeisel proved highly popular with London’s electorate. Darren Johnson said, "It was good to receive such an enthusiastic response from Londoners and also to show that we can power vehicles using alternatives other than conventional fuel. There should be far more research into this and more use should be made of imaginative ways of carrying freight such as bicycles and using London’s waterways."

Darren’s transport pledges include:-

Reducing the need to travel as a strategic goal, with no major traffic-generating developments permitted.

2. An immediate end to new road building and the £1.2 billion saved to be re-allocated to facilities for cyclists and pedestrians and improvements in public transport.

3. A 20mph speed limit as the norm throughout London by 2006, except on most major roads.

4. A safe route to school scheme for every London child by 2008.

5. The London Cycle Network completed and cycling budget to be increased four-fold.

6. Congestion charging extended to all of Greater London, with lower charges for outer zones, a 90% residents discount and a levy of £3,000 a year on company car-parking spaces.

7. A five-year fares freeze, free travelcard scheme for unwaged people and young people, reduced fares for low-paid workers.

8. An end to travel discrimination against disabled people. Seamless bus/rail/tube transfers for the disabled, with at least 50 per cent accessibility by 2015 and full access by 2020.

9. All tube and rail services to be brought back into public ownership and an all night tube service at weekends.

10. An orbital rail service for inner London and investment in new tramways. More investment in our canals and waterways for freight.
