Night flights – we don’t take it lying down!

Photo Opportunity: Friday 27th February 8.45am to 9.30am on the green opposite the Thistle Hotel, Victoria Station (junction of Victoria Street / Grosvenor Gardens and Buckingham Palace Road).

The Department of Transport will be holding yet another "consultation" exercise about night flights. They have booked 8 industry speakers but nobody to represent the residents directly affected by their plans.

London Green Party activist, Graham Lee will be joining many other people from across London in a "sleep in" on Friday morning to remind all those attending the consultation of the sleepless nights that night flights will cause Hillingdon residents and all others under flight paths. They will be bedded down outside the Thistle Hotel in their nightwear to get the point over.

Graham Lee commented, "Night flights are not necessary. This is just another way that the aviation industry is trying to expand with no consideration for local residents.

Not only are they intent on polluting the air, but they are also intent on stopping us from having a good night’s sleep."

He went on to say, "If aviation paid its true costs to society by way of taxation of aviation fuel in the same way as diesel used in lorries and coaches and this money invested in the national rail network then nobody would consider domestic air travel, but would use the rail network.

There would be a reduction in the number of flights leading to not only no requirement for night flights, but also no requirement for extra runway capacity in the UK."
