Darren Johnson AM

 

Darren has played a very active role in Green politics over the past two decades and is now one of the party's best-known figures. Darren was elected to the London Assembly in May 2000 and is currently Chair of the Assembly as well as Deputy Chair of the Environment Committee. He was also the first Green member on Lewisham Council and is now leader of the Council’s six-strong Green Group.


As Chair of the Assembly’s Environment Committee Darren led investigations into a range of topics including: flood risk in London, water shortages, Heathrow expansion, the loss of London’s street trees. He has also promoted measures to address low-pay in the Capital through a London Living wage and policies to protect vital local services.


Darren was born in 1966 and lives in Lewisham, South East London. He is a graduate of Goldsmiths College, University of London, where he gained a first-class BA (Hons.) in Politics and Economics.
