Met interest in ‘military-spec’ armoured vehicles will raise concerns

Commenting on reports of the Met's interest in acquiring ‘military-spec' armoured cars, Green Party member of the London Assembly's Police and Crime Committee, Jenny Jones, said:

"The Met's interest in equipment designed predominantly for military deployment is bound to raise concerns.

"Unfortunately, as last year's revelations over the Met's secret purchase of a spy plane demonstrated, there is also a worrying precedent of controversial and expensive decisions being made in secret.

"I hope that any moves to increase the Met's military arsenal would be presented by the Mayor in full and in advance to the London Assembly's Police and Crime Committee so that democratic scrutiny and public awareness can be guaranteed."
