Darren Johnson AM

Darren has played a very active role in Green politics over the past two decades and as is now one of the party's best-known figures. He was elected to the London Assembly in May 2000 and since 2004 has been Chair of the London Assembly's Environment Committee.

London-wide Assembly candidate No.2

In May 2002 Darren was also elected as the first Green on Lewisham Council and is now Leader of the Council's six-strong Green Group.

As Chair of the Assembly's Environment Committee Darren has led investigations into a range of topics including: flood risk in London, water shortages, the barriers preventing ordinary Londoners from installing green energy systems in their own homes, helicopter noise and the loss of front gardens. Darren has been able to ensure that many of the recommendations from these investigations have been taken up by the Mayor and the Government. He has also campaigned hard to address low-pay in the Capital and establish a London Living Wage.

Darren has led on the budget negotiations with the current Mayor of London on behalf of the Assembly Greens. Using their casting vote over the Mayor's budget the Greens have been able to secure funding for a range of initiatives including new cycle lanes, a green homes advice service and a London Living Wage Unit.

Darren was born in 1966 and lives in Brockley, South East London. He is a graduate of Goldsmiths College, University of London, where he gained a first-class BA (Hons.) in Politics and Economics.
